How sedation dentistry helps patients in Prescott, WI, overcome dental anxiety

Few people will claim they love going to the dentist, but patients who have severe dental phobia may put off a trip to the dentist even when they are in immense pain. At Scenic Bluffs Dental, we offer sedation dentistry to help patients relax, whether they are scheduled for a tooth extraction or a simple hygiene visit.

Overcoming all levels of anxiety

Woman at dental Clinic

Different levels of sedation provide a “no fear” visit to the dentist no matter how severe your anxiety is. Some patients can feel more relaxed simply by talking about their fears before their appointment and may prefer that our team communicate what they are doing each step of the way to help them feel comfortable during procedures.

Others may need a little more help. Nitrous oxide is a fast-acting compound that can keep you relaxed as well as reduce discomfort during your procedure. Nitrous oxide is safe to use during routine cleanings, fillings, and other procedures, and it is easily reversible with oxygen, so you can still drive yourself home without worry.

Oral conscious sedation is administered as a pill you can take before your appointment for patients with more intense phobias, and it is more potent than nitrous oxide. Patients will need to avoid eating for six hours before the appointment, as well as arrange for a ride.

Reversible anesthesia

Many dental procedures require a local anesthetic to keep patients from feeling pain and discomfort, but local anesthetics can last for a few hours after you leave the office. We offer all of our patients OraVerse to reverse the effects of anesthesia so they can restore full function to their mouths sooner and resume their normal routine.

Dr. Jay is dedicated to providing the best possible experience for every patient he sees. Whether you need a root canal or routine exam, you can opt for additional help to reduce your anxiety to get the treatment you need to protect your teeth. Patients looking for sedation dentistry in Prescott, WI, and surrounding cities such as Ellsworth, River Falls, and Hastings, MN, can call us today at (715) 953-0499 to set up an appointment.
